How To Select Child Furniture

It’s a common dilemma: decorating a toddler nursery with the right child furniture. Your child’s outgrown teddy bears and pastel ribbons, and is ready for a motif that looks more “grown up” but still retains that sense of innocence. You also want kid furniture that’s as practical as it is pretty. After all, your child’s grown more active and curious. He loves to play, read, and occasionally subject his toys to the loud banging and kicking (”but it’s part of the game, Mommy!”).

Design
The first step is to decide on a theme. Look at your child’s personality and personal preferences. Does he love cars or animals, cowboys or aliens? Is she fascinated with fairy tales or stories of jungle safaris? If you’re not sure, then narrow the choices to two and let your child pick—the room becomes more special if he “helped” put it together.

Functionality
When buying child furniture, check functionality and design. The stools should be sturdy, and use non-leaded paint. Look for surfaces that are easy to wipe clean and rounded corners (or invest in plastic safety clamps). Desks should be spacious enough to hold paper and crayons, tea sets or books—after all, this is your child’s “work space”. Special bonuses are shelves or compartments where you can store small boxes for art materials, puzzle pieces and other knick knacks.

Safety
The advantage of buying specialty children’s furniture is that you’re more or less assured that they have met safety regulations and are built for a child’s proportions (at least he won’t tip over as he tries to scramble up a chair!). And of course, the attractive design encourages the child to sit and play. This is his table, his chair, and for toddlers, that sense of ownership is a huge factor in building self-esteem. He is growing more independent, and the role of parents is to provide just enough freedom in a safe environment—like a room where everything is child-friendly. Here he can be left alone for hours, learning to play independently and explore on his own, without mommy constantly worrying that he’ll break something (or his neck). That alone makes investing in specialty child’s furniture worthwhile.

Your Furniture Checklist

Tables and chairs – This encourages your child to spend hours drawing, writing, reading, or engaging in pretend play (like inviting her teddy bears for afternoon tea). Think of this set as the stage for your child’s creativity. With no table or chair, your child will be forced to do these activities on the floor—hunched over, or lying on his stomach. This is tiring and ultimately bad for his posture.

Book cases – To encourage a child’s love for reading, books must be kept accessible. He should be able to grab a book whenever he wants to, and then put the book back himself (unless you want to develop the habit of picking up after him each time!)

Toy storage – Toys can get lost or broken if they are left willy-nilly on the floor. The best toy storage should have different compartments to segregate the various items in his ever-growing collection. Teaching your child to organize toys (stuffed animals on one shelf, blocks on another) also helps him develop abstract thinking.

Child Desk – Children need a place of their own to work on arts and crafts or homework. A child desk is a perfect addition to any room and allows your child their own work area.

Buying Children’s Furniture Online
Furniture shopping with kids in tow is about as much fun as getting a tooth pulled. To add insult to injury, with gas prices at $3 a gallon or more, to say it is cost prohibitive is a bit of an understatement. So, selecting and purchasing the perfect theme room for your child is a challenge at best.

The children’s furniture market is the fastest growing segment of the furniture market with billions a year being sold. This has brought about an increase in specialty manufacturers catering to this market segment. Today, chances are if you can think of the theme for children’s furniture, you can find it being sold on the Internet.

Spending an evening in front of the computer searching on kid bedroom themes with your child can be a perfect way to solve this problem. Your child will feel like they are contributing to the family decision-making process while you can easily (and without a full tank of gas) prescreen the selections you show them to fit your needs. Kid furniture should be economical and made of quality construction. It should also be aesthetically pleasing and functional. Most importantly, it needs to be fun thereby, creating an environment that conveys your child’s unique personality and your unique style.

The bottom line is that before getting into the car to go browsing for child furniture, which in your child’s mind is the equivalent to torture, spend an evening with a bag of popcorn in front of the computer as a family. You’ll save money and turn a laborious process into something fun for the entire family and might even learn something new about your child in the process.

How I Decorated the Room for My Kids

When it comes to decorating their kid’s bedroom, most parents do not mind spending a ton. In fact they go out of their way to get innovative so that their children enjoy every moment in the room. This article will help you in decorating your child’s room. The correct furniture, the decor, the toys – all will be discussed in this guide.

Children’s rooms tend to be full of many trinkets and trivial objects. Of course, what seems trivial to the mature eyes of the parents may be extremely important for the tiny tots. The point is that you will not be able to get rid of much of clutter from your kid’s room without breaking his heart. Why do that when a little creativity and planning can solve the issue?

The most important rule to remember while decorating your child’s room is that the bedroom furniture should not be so large as to leave no space for games and simple lounging. Whenever you buy furniture for the children’s room, make sure that it has enough space to store all the toys and other knick knacks of the kid. To make the room look clean you will have to find ways to fit in all the little belongings of your child. You can buy a bed that has extra storage capacity. In such beds, you may find large drawers underneath or on the sides.

Naturally, the furniture bought should be very sturdy and durable. The beds must be made of very strong material and must have a lifetime guarantee. Many types of children’s beds are available in the furniture stores. Bunk beds, Canopy beds and beds in various themes are perfect for the children. These days, beds are built around many cartoon characters or other favorite activities of kids. There are Cinderella beds for the little princesses and race car beds for the tiny dare devil. You can select the theme your kid loves most and choose a bedroom set accordingly.

The best aspect of decorating a child’s bedroom is that you can make the room as lively as possible. So you can let loose your childhood fantasies and make the room full of fun. The whole idea is to make your kid dance a jig on seeing his room. He should be able to enjoy the room and for that you can use bright colors and his favorite cartoons on walls.

Even the bed covers, pillows and curtains can be made attractive with the scores of fun filled characters that kids love. You will receive lots of help from your favorite furniture store as the industry catering to kids furniture is booming and many themes, shapes and colors are used to add interest to the accessories in children’s rooms.

Bunk Beds or Kids’ Beds, Which is better?

Getting a suitable bed is not a very easy task especially when you are getting it for your kids. Beds for kids generally have to be safe to avoid unnecessary accidents. Kids will play on the beds from time to time when they are in their room hence it is also necessary to get strong beds that won’t easily succumb to pressure. Beds that can easily break may also hurt them in the process. Sometimes it is important to let the kids choose their own beds to make sure they enjoy what they are sleeping on.

Choosing a bed for the kids will also be determined by the room size. If the room is larger, then you can get bigger beds but if it smaller, you may be forced to get a bed that minimizes on the space. Kids will require different types of beds according to their ages. Above all, the bed has to be comfortable and suitable for them.

Kid’s beds are good when you have many bedrooms such that each kid will have his/her own room. In such a case you wouldn’t need bunk beds that are two in one to be shared. If each of the kids is using a single room, then there might be enough space to put the kids’ beds without having problems with space.
Bunk beds for kids come in handy when the kids need to share a room that is small in size.  Bunk beds that have two beds occupy small spaces at the same time providing room for more kids to sleep on. They also have rails that can prevent the kid from falling hence are a bit safer when it comes to child safety. Good thing is that you can select one with the right width and height between the rails that are close enough so a small kid cannot easily slip though to the ground. With a bunk bed, you can rest assured that the kids are safe anytime.

Even when the kid is using the room alone, bunk beds are good when you have visitors with kids since they can get space to sleep on if the bunk bed has two beds. They also come in handy during sleepovers hence you don’t have to worry about the room being small since you can just put a bank bed in there. With smaller rooms, you can consider getting bunk beds that have drawers at the bottom to provide storage for some of the kid’s items to save on space.

Many bunk bed manufacturers design the bunk beds with the kids in mind hence these are the best choice when it comes to selecting beds for kids. Bunk beds and kids’ beds have their own advantages and disadvantages which means the choice will depend on your needs and preferences as well as convenience. Both of them serve well in their own capacity. The important thing is to get the best bed for them that is strong, safe and comfortable.

Updating Kids Room

Your child’s room is perhaps the one place that your kid reflects on his hiding place and comfort zone. This is where he finds the privacy that he requires and though you think that kids at their young ages do not require privacy then you are absolutely wrong. Your child’s room is the place where he finds to be himself and you must therefore understand how significant his room is for him.

Your kid’s room should look comforting and tidy simultaneously as well as it is your responsibility as his parent to ask him to maintain and clean his room regularly. If you are looking for great way to bond as well as keep up with your rising kid’s feelings, you might desire to reflect on reinventing the complete look of your child’s room.

You could start by asking your child on what new theme or design he would wish his room to have and certain things like that. You may also want to arrange your budget because reinventing your child’s room could be expensive however the experience will certainly be rewarding consecutively. The great thing is that there are a number of sites online that might guide and help you with this as well as in no time you could be faced with a complete new look for your child’s room.

One amongst the easiest rooms to refurbish is the child’s room. You could be playful with colors as well as make is as entertaining as you can. The place is also small and so is furniture that makes it more exciting and fun to redecorate. The room of your kid is perhaps one of the regions in the house that requires renovation from time to time. This is since kids grow up fast and you have to modernize their room to match to their need and age. The requirements of your kid vary, when he became a toddler evaluated to his requirements when he was only an infant.

You would certainly want to revamp a room from house you purchase to suit the requirements of your kid. The excitement part about refurbishing the room is that you could use this to educate him things as well as have fun with him. Following are some ways to make the procedure exciting for both of you:

1. Plan design of room together. Explain him the set of colors plus ask him which color he needs for his wall. Ask him how he wants his room to seem like.

2. After shopping for kids beds and other furniture, show your children the color of paint you got for room. This would be something that they would look forward to.

3. Allocate him to do the project while you are ready to start the renovation. This would make him feel part of the whole process.

4. When all the kids furniture is in, you could invite the children to join you in room. Educate them how to place their toys. You could even show them how to systematize their books as well as their clothes. Redecorating your kid’s room could be fun for your child and you. They will certainly feel proud on how the room has become.

Shopping for Kids Furniture like Kids Beds can be very daunting experience. Keep up your cool when you are dealing with your child.

Remodeling? Kids Bedding, And Bedding Accessories Are Important

When designing a bedroom for a child you must remember who the room belongs to. Be sure your child has some input in the selections you make.

Sometimes kids seem to want everything they see, or not, depending on the child’s personality and age. They do not understand how to design their rooms. You will need lots of patience, sometimes you will have to be firm with them and say “no” we’re not going to do that. The theme is important. Will it be animals, space ships, fire trucks, cowboys, bugs, flowers, ships, trains, or something else?

Here are some questions you will have to answer.

For instance:
1. What is the amount of money you are going to spend?
2. What colors are you going to use?
3. How much control will you give your child when it comes to picking what they want?
4. What product/s will fit your needs best?
5. Are you going to do the whole room or just the bed? (There are lots of kids bedding possibilities, when this is coupled with the right bedding accessories you will have a winning combination).
6. Will you paint? What about wall borders? Pictures on the Wall? How about rugs, clocks, growth charts, sheets, comforters and the list can go on and on.

Like most things, this project can get out of hand. What starts out with a simple idea can soon become a very complicated problem. You need to spend some time considering how far do you want to take this? The age of your child may be a factor. If he/she is at a transformation age, it may not be a good idea to change the whole room if in a year or two they will outgrow what you are going to do. For instance, if your child is an infant, get toddler bedding. This way you will save by buying the bedding once instead of twice.

Be sure to spend some time with your child, maybe looking at different websites. Letting them see what is available, this can be a big help. It will tell you what your child has a passion for, and can be useful in choosing everything from your theme to colors of products.

At this point it seems that we have more questions than answers. However, it is important to evaluate the whole idea, come up with different scenarios and settle on one. Then the trick is to stick to it. This will save you time and money in the long run. Changing your mind in the middle of a project can get expensive. A well thought out plan is a money saver!

The reward is at the end of the project when you see the delight on your child’s face. This is the truly great thing about kids, their excitement. Wouldn’t it be great to have that kind of zest for your life? The end result will make all your hard work pay off.

Kids Tables and Chairs Make Fantastic Children’s Gifts

The thought of kids tables and chairs takes me back to when I was a youngster and my dad brought me home a table all for myself. It was my size and I thought it wonderful, but I had no chair to sit at. My dad made me that chair and I remember them both to this day. Kid’s tables and chairs make fantastic gifts and your kids will remember them all their lives. They are something that they can use, just like adults use their furniture, and give them a sense of responsibility, owning their own furniture.

You might not be able to make your kids their own chairs, but you can sure buy them online at great prices. There are lots of sites offering children’s furniture that they can use themselves, rather than just having their dolls and action men. If your children are interested in sports, how about a table and four stools in a sports theme. Enough seating for your kids and their friends. Or would they prefer an all star sports rocking chair? How about a desk with doorknobs in form of sports balls.

If your child is not into sports so much, how about your little princess having her own vanity table with a lovely heart shaped mirror and matching chair with a heart cushion. A musical box for her ‘valuables’ and you are all set for one happy little girl! If your child is a boy, then he can be a Little Prince with his own table and chair, with a secret compartment to store his own special stuff. Both can have a great little rocking chair designed just for a girl or a boy – a princess or a prince!

If they are a bit young for that then you can have the option of one of several activity play tables, including a musical table with remo drums, xylophones and cymbals. Great fun for the kids, and you will want to join in too. Or how about a space shuttle roller-coaster – don’t ask! They know, and they will love it. Jungles chairs will be very popular, with each chair representing a different jungle animal, or, for the smaller tots, representing small country animals. You name it, you can practically have it on a chair that is sturdy enough to withstand the roughest use.

SoHo chairs are also available online, with sturdy arms and back covered in tough vinyl for easy cleaning. Just wipe with a wet cloth and they come up bright and new. Alternatively, you might want to present your child with a beautiful chair with hand-painted shaped back in the form of a bee, a caterpillar, butterfly or lady-bug. Young children would love these, and also one of the little butterfly shaped stools suitable for 2 – 3 year olds, crafted for years of use and very easy to clean. You can alternatively have upholstered rockers or lovely director’s chairs in a variety of colors. Whatever you want, you will find a chair online to suit your needs – or the needs of your child whatever his or her age.

Individual kids tables have a number of motifs handed painted on the top, and many come with individual drawers for all these bits and pieces that children gather. The tables are also well made and can withstand rough handling like most kids furniture made these days. There are also arts and crafts tables available, large enough to sit four to six children, and with drawers for the tools and other crafts items they will use. If you want something really classy, you can also get Victorian reproduction furniture in polished solid wood, with Queen Anne legs in solid wood. This is for the older child, and the table comes with two chairs.

Whatever you decide on for your kids’ table and chairs, you will have provided them with something functional, rather than just a toy, and something that can be used for years to come. Educational toys are better for children in the long run, and they can be provided in fun designs that will attract them and make them want to use them.

Children’s furniture has improved tremendously over the past few years, both in looks and in quality, and is more than just a simple replica of standard adult furniture. It is designed with kids in mind, not adults, and by people who understand the stresses and strains that kids’ furniture will have to endure. It is not only functional, but is strong, attractive, and your kids will just love owning any one of the many designs that are available on the internet today.

So be imaginative, and give your child a piece of furniture that will not only last and be handed down to their own children, but that is functional and will be used, and that will also be loved and treasured. Kid’s tables and chairs make great gifts, and woe betide anybody that uses it without their permission!

Bean Bags Chairs Make Great Kids Furniture

I had forgotten just how comfortable bean bags are. I just recently purchased a kids beanbag chair for my granddaughter and tried it out – just to bring back old memories. Beanbags are the funkiest type of chairs and the comfort is unbelievable. Bean bags are actually very conducive to good health of ones back and spine in that the bags prevent any excess stress. This prevents any long or short term damage to ones back joints and ones health in general, just right for kids growing up.

Beanbags chairs make great furniture that is flexible enough to support ones back, regardless of their position.

Bean bags are

Comfortable to sit in while watching TV or just hanging out

Fun to play on, kids love to romp and roll on them

They are colorful and come in many different styles and materials

Long lasting and hard wearing

Make great furniture

Can be used anywhere

My granddaughter has already learned to jump from the sofa onto the soft chair and takes great delight in doing so. Bean Bags chairs are full of soft filler and because Bean Bags chairs are frameless, there are no hard edges or sharp corners for a child to bump into. The urethane foam inside is said to last much longer than those “beans” which the old style bean bags contained when I was growing up. It is the urethane foam that is responsible for the chair having that soft, spongy and shapeable effect. I am certain that this chair will provide her with many years of fun and comfort.

Bean Bags are easy to clean. The kid’s bean bag chair that we bought has a removable cover as do many quality bean bag chairs. When the kids spill their grape juice all over it, don’t worry too much about it being ruined. All you have to do is to wipe away the mess from the Bean Bag chair before it dries. If you didn’t see the accident, then it is a simple matter of unzipping the cover and washing.

Many kids chairs are filled with polystyrene beads and some models feature cores that come with a child-resistant, locking zipper, making refilling easier while protecting your child by keeping them out of the filling.

Even though she is old enough to climb up onto the couch by herself, she now prefers her own place to sit.

Make your children happy and surprise them with this adorable, fun and very comfortable for seating Kids Bean Bags. Choose any of these decorative and imaginative beanbag chairs for all the kids in your life.

After a fun day of play our granddaughter will settle down to watch TV or read a book on her beanbag chair. She loves the comfort and fun of her own bean bag chair.

I can still see the look of surprise and the laughter when she first tried her bean bag chair. I think I’ll get one and join her on the floor.

Why Are Kids Bedding And Bedding Accessories So Important?

Why are kids bedding and bedding accessories important, you may ask?  After much thought on this subject, I will start out by saying that it your kids position of importance and belonging in the family, and in the household.  It is important for children to know that they are loved and valued.  I believe that having their own rooms and their own possessions is critical to their well being.  Their room is a place where they can escape form the world. It is familiar ground where they are in control.  It is their turf.  It gives them peace of mind.  It is a place where they can relax and be themselves and think through their problems.  Well, you get the idea.

When you are designing your kid’s bedrooms, there are a couple things to keep in mind.  For instance the age of the child is important.  This is true for a couple reasons.

The first reason is to help the parents save money by doing it right.  Most of us are money conscious these days.  It is expensive to change your kid’s room, and then do it over again in a year or two.  We should take into consideration the age of the child.  Why?  Because if they are in a transition age, (going from baby to toddler, or from toddler to big kids or from big kids to adolescence) it may make sense to do a surface upgrade.  By that I mean do a few things that will make changes that won’t break the bank.  Then in a year or two it may be time to set a theme or to change the theme already in place, and do a more in depth room makeover.

The child should be given some choices.  Children should have some input into the theme and color scheme of their room.  This shows that you have some confidence, respect and above all that you love them enough to let them have a say in what they will have in their own room.  It also helps the child’s ability to make decisions.  This is important in the early years of a child’s life.  By letting them help make decisions it can be a nudge in the direction of independence. This takes courage and diplomacy on the parent’s part, but in the end you should be able to comprise and work things out.  Good Luck!

Let’s talk a little bit about theme, color and accessories.  These are some things that are important if we want to design a great room that has continuity.  It takes some talent to coordinate colors and objects and then organize them in a way that is inviting and appealing.  I am no expert on this subject, but I believe that if you start with the theme, that the theme will dictate the colors, and the colors will dictate the accessories.  You see, it is a progression thing.

Theme, this is what you and your child will decide what will be the subject for your child’s room.   The theme should be something that your child has a passion for such as dinosaurs, trucks, flowers, bugs, sports, wild animals, or pets and so on.  This is not by any means a complete list.  This list is just a suggestion for you to think about what your child has a passion for and how to select the theme for their room.  Once your theme is set, you can move on to the next step which is deciding on what colors to paint the walls.  Be sure to research, find out what colors the accessories and bedding come in.   This should, give you an idea on what color you will paint the walls of the room in question.

The color of the room is the thing that holds the room together.  I think of it as a kind of glue.  Color is a binder for a room.  To use color and get results that you will be happy with will take some thought and planning.  If you have a talent in this area, it should be easy to make things flow.  It is usually obvious when you enter a room if the color is right or wrong.  Kids love color, so be creative.

Most accessories are very colorful and that is why accessories coordinate well with the kid’s bedding.  That is if the kid’s bedding, and accessories have the same theme.  Accessories are available in a wide range of items.  There are: clocks, wall boarders, rugs, wall hangings (with different color frames), pillows, growth charts, curtains and many more.

I hope that this article will be helpful to many parents.  I think you can see that it is not so hard to accomplish setting up a great room for your children.  Think of kid’s bedding and bedding accessories as tools to help you achieve your goal of having a great room for your children.
